The Georgia Tech baseball program will begin their last non-conference series of the season on Friday against Western Carolina.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are set to begin their final non-conference series of the series on Friday night when they take on the Southern Conference’s Western Carolina Catamounts.

The Jackets enter the series as one of the country’ top ten programs, sitting at a comfortable record of 30-14 on the season and are a strong 15-9 in non-conference play. The Catamounts, on the other hand, are 18-22 on the season and are 11-11 in non-conference play as they come to Russ Chandler Stadium on Friday.

The Catamounts have struggled as of late, however, losing seven out of their last 10 games including a weekday loss this week to Appalachian State. The Jackets have already clinched their spot in the ACC Tournament but will look to close in on clinching a spot in an NCAA regional. A series sweep this weekend would go along way in that process.

Taking the mound for Georgia Tech on Friday will be junior right-hander Xzavion Curry. Curry is 4-2 on the season with a 4.08 ERA on the season. Last time out, he allowed two runs over four innings against the Clemson Tigers. Overall, Curry has bounced back nicely from a rough outing against Boston College three weeks ago when he allowed seven runs over five innings.

He can’t take the Catamounts offense lightly, however, as pitchers against Western Carolina have a 6.46 ERA on the season. The Catamounts themselves have a team batting average of .303 on the season. They can hit the ball out of the ballpark as well with 41 home runs on the season.

It will be interesting to see if there any rust on the Jackets bats as they come off a long week break. The good news, however, is the Jackets will be facing a pitching staff that has struggled this season with a team ERA of 5.92 on the season. The Catamounts pitching staff has also been a victim to the long ball this season, giving up 27 so far on the year.

Georgia Tech and Western Carolina will begin their three-game set at Russ Chandler Stadium with a first pitch time of 6:00 pm on Friday night.
