The Georgia Tech baseball team was the winners of several ACC honors on Monday as the ACC announced their awards and honors.

It was a helluva a day for the Georgia Tech baseball program who took home several ACC honors and awards on Monday afternoon. The Jackets entering the ACC Tournament as the No.2 seed and the No.6 team in the country were awarded for what can only be called a “season of overachieving”.

Danny Hall wins COY:

The Georgia Tech head coach took home the ACC Coach of the Year award for the Jackets efforts in the 2019 regular season. The Jackets went 38-16 overall in the regular season and 19-11 in conference play. It was Hall’s fourth ACC Coach of the Year award and his first since 2005. Hall also won the award in 1997, 2000, 2005. Hall also won National Coach of the Year in 1997 from Sporting News.

For Hall, it’s another feather in the cap for a legendary coaching career. While he has yet to win a National Championship, Hall has won over 1,200 games in his career so far. He’ll look to add that elusive National Championship this season.

Jackets earn All-ACC honors:

A total of six Yellow Jackets made All-ACC honors on Monday with three Yellow Jackets making All-ACC first team, one making All-ACC second team, and two making All-ACC third team.

Leading the Jackets on the All-ACC first team are Tristin English, Kyle McCann, and Connor Thomas. English hit a career-high .319 as a junior for the Yellow Jackets this season while clobbering 15 home runs and driving in 57. He also picked up five saves and two wins on the mound for the Jackets.

Catcher Kyle McCann showed why he’s one of the premier catchers in all of college baseball and continued the offensive success that Tech catchers historically have. McCann hit 22 home runs this season while driving in 63 runs while hitting .301 this season. In total he had 32 extra base hits while also walking 56 times on the season. A stellar season to say the least.

Connor Thomas was the Jackets best pitcher this season from start to finish and was honored for being so. Thomas went 9-1 this season for the Yellow Jackets collecting a 3.11 ERA over 14 starts and 98.1 innings. While he didn’t enjoy the same amount of strikeout success as he has in the past, he became a more complete pitcher in 2019.

On the second team, All-ACC for the Jacket was outfielder Baron Radcliffe. The outfielder had a breakout season this year hitting .280 while hitting 12 home runs on the season, he was one of the more impressive hitters as the season went on and his future seems extremely bright.

On the third team, the Jackets had Xzavion Curry and Michael Guldberg.  Curry, the junior right-hander and the Jackets’ Friday night starter went 4-2 with a 4.08 ERA over 11 starts and 57.1 innings pitched. Guldberg, on the other hand, was the Jackets best hitter from start to finish this season in terms of average. The infielder hit .373 on the season and had an on-base percentage of .460. While he’s not considered a power threat, Guldberg still was able to be a dangerous offensive piece for the Jackets and a player capable of getting on base every time he’s at the plate.
