The Georgia Tech football program received their 13th public commitment on Saturday from running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

The Georgia Tech football program is having a big recruiting weekend this Memorial Day weekend on The Flats with a ton of visitors both unofficial and official on campus. With that, the Jackets have already received one commitment this weekend, that commitment coming from running back Jahmy Gibbs.

A three-star all-purpose back out of Dalton, Georgia, Gibbs is ranked as a top-700 player nationally, a top-10 all-purpose back, and a top-70 player in the Peach State. That’s per 247Sports’s industry composite rankings. 247Sports themselves are much higher on Gibbs, ranking him as a top-400 player nationally and a top-40 player in the state of Georgia. Gibbs stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 187-pounds according to his 247Sports profile.

So far in his recruitment, Gibbs has received 20 scholarship offers, a strong mixture of Power 5 offers and Group of 5 offers. A few notable programs have offered the Dalton native including Iowa State, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Purdue, Texas A&M, and Virginia Tech. With offers like that, it’s safe to say that Gibbs is valued pretty highly by programs around the country and is probably better than his rankings indicate.

Gibbs highlight film above shows the reasons why the Georgia Tech coaching staff wanted Gibbs in the first place and a look at the film makes it hard not to think about the potential Gibbs has. In his HUDL tape above, you can see that Gibbs has great speed and is a running back who is elusive and can make defenders miss with tremendous and precise cuts.

Additionally, Gibbs is a versatile player being able to not just carry the ball but also be a quality pass catcher and pass blocker. A “do-it-all” running back, Gibbs is the type of running back that you can build an offense around. The potential Gibbs has is truly tremendous and with a strong senior season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the three-star back rise up the recruiting rankings.

With the commitment, the Jackets now have 13 commitments in the 2020 recruiting class. The commitment moves the Jackets up to No.12 in the recruiting rankings but they remain 5th in the ACC rankings. Gibbs is the first running back commitment of the 2020 class and with the Jackets taking three running backs in the 2019 cycle, it wouldn’t be shocking if GIbbs was the only running back the Jackets took in this class.
