Redshirt sophomore Kelton Dawson is looking to make his first impacts on the field in 2019.

Stockbridge (Georgia) native Kelton Dawson is entering his redshirt sophomore season on The Flats and is still looking to make his first impact on the field. Through his first two seasons on The Flat, the former three-star prospect has appeared in just two games last season as a redshirt freshman. He played against Bowling Green and at Virginia Tech, he recorded his first career tackle against the Falcons.

Dawson, a three-star coming out of Stockbridge High School in 2017 was a late addition to the Jackets 2017 recruiting class. Dawson in his recruitment was offered by 18 programs during his recruitment, mostly consisting of Group of 5 programs with some Power 5 programs sprinkled in.

In 2019, Dawson will most likely play in a backup and reserve role for the Yellow Jackets. That being said, by all accounts, Dawson had a very strong spring under the new coaching staff and had a quality spring game for the Jackets as well. He recorded three tackles including one sack for the White team in the spring game. If Dawson could replicate his spring this summer, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him cement himself as a defensive end who sees quality time on a consistent basis this upcoming season.

Overall, Dawson has the chance to be a great role player for the Yellow Jackets this season, especially if he could hone in his pass rushing skills and become a quality pass rusher in relief of the starters.  Only 91 days until Georgia Tech kicks off the 2019 season against the Clemson Tigers!
