Georgia Tech Football Countdown to Kickoff #46: A look back at LB Tremayne McNair
The countdown to Georgia Tech football’s 2019 season kicking off is down to just 46 days!
As Major League baseball hits the second half of their season, it means college football and football in general is just weeks away. While NFL teams will be beginning their training camps in the next two or three weeks, college teams will be beginning their fall camps at the beginning of next month. Today, July 14 marks just 46 days until Georgia Tech football returns to the field on August 29th against Clemson.
With no active player on the 2019 roster wearing No.46 we take a look back at a former Yellow Jackets linebacker, Tremayne McNair. McNair was a member of the Georgia Tech football program from 2011 to 2015. The Florida native was a three-star linebacker coming out of Jacksonville, North Carolina as part of the 2011 recruiting class.
McNair committed to play at Georgia Tech over 11 other scholarship offers including offers from Arkansas, Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina State, South Carolina, and West Virginia. McNair at the time of the 2011 recruiting class was considered one of the top prospects in the Jackets recruiting class and with that came high expectations.
Unfortunately, McNair would never really get to live up to those expectations and was held back at times by injuries including a torn meniscus in fall camp of the 2012 season. McNair would see playing time in 2012 and 2013 after the injury but struggled to make a huge impact on a stat sheet, in six career games according to college football reference, he recorded nine tackles including one for a sack.
McNair today is a Football Operations Assistant at Towson University in Maryland after graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in Business Administration and Management. Only 46 days left until toe meets leather!
