Cooper, a senior for the Jackets is one of the Jackets most experienced players and has started 19 games at center the last two seasons. The Rimington Trophy is annually given out to the narion’s top center and while there is stiff competition for he award, Morgan could make a strong case for him to be among those discussed for the award as th me season progresses.
Tight end Tyler Davis, a senior transfer from UCONN will enter 2019 as one of the Jackets primary targets offensively which makes him a logical selection for the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award. Davis is a tremendous athlete and was one of the best tight ends in the AAC last season. In 2019, he’ll have a chance to take his play to the next level and put himself in the conversation for the nation’s best tight end. Barring injury, Davis should get plenty of opportunities in 2019 to show his worth to the Tech fans.
Cooper and Davis are the third and fourth Jackets to be named to watchlists this preseason after running backs Jerry Howard and Jordan Mason both were named to the Doak Walker Award watchlists on Wednesday.
So far for the Yellow Jackets, four players being recognized is a good start for the Yellow Jackets. With all four players being on the offensive side of the ball it’s a good indication of while the Jackets offense is expected to struggle in 2019, there is plenty of talent across the offense for the Jackets.
As we’ve stated before, the quarterback play will decide much of the offenses fate, more so than it did under Paul Johnson. No matter who the quarterback is however, he’ll have plenty of weapons around him especially in Davis, Howard, and Mason while having one of the nation’s best centers in front of him.
