With just 31 days till the first game of the season, we highlight one of the newest additions to the Georgia Tech defense, defensive back Kenan Johnson.

Defensive back Kenan Johnson was a consensus three-star prospect coming out of high school in Minneola, Florida. Originally committed to UNC he flipped his commitment from the Tar Heels late in the cycle, committing just nine days before signing his letter of intent on December 19th.

In high school, Johnson was a ball hawk in the secondary, totaling 12 interceptions over his junior and senior seasons according to his official Georgia Tech profile. He also displayed skills as a tackler with 37 tackles. At 6’1″ tall he has the length and ability to show skill in pass coverage could put him in a position to make an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball if needed.

A rotation within the defense and secondary could be the foundation for how Geoff Collins prepares his team from week to week as above the line or below the line and if Johnson shows any of that ability to be effective in the passing game on defense he could be a quickly rising impact player at the cornerback position.  This could be a season where a large amount of true freshmen see a playing time as this team solidifies around its new coach and system. Johnson should be comfortable to play anywhere in the secondary for the Yellow Jackets and he may get the opportunity to do just that this season.

The Yellow Jackets begin their season in Death Valley against the defending national champion Clemson Tigers on Aug. 29th on the brand new ACC Network.
