The countdown to kickoff rolls on here at Yellow Jacked Up and today, we take a quick look at the lone No.28 on Georgia Tech’s 2019 roster in freshman defensive back Jeremiah Smith.

Freshman defensive back Jeremiah Smith will look to make an instant impact in 2019 as the Loganville, Georgia native looks to get his self acclimated to the college game over the next few weeks of the Yellow Jackets fall practices. While it’s too early to tell how much playing time Smith will see in 2019, the former three-star recruit has some quality potential. That being said, let’s backtrack to his recruitment quickly.

Smith was one of the Jackets longest commitments, if not the longest of the 2019 recruiting class as he committed to Paul Johnson’s coaching staff and program at the time back in February of 2018. He never wavered from his commitment despite holding 12 other scholarships offers including receiving offers from several Power 5 programs including Indiana, Iowa, Miss State, and Vanderbilt.

Smith ended up ranked as a mid-level three-star recruit and is expected to be a quality depth and rotation player for the Jackets coming out of high school. In 2019, Smith will probably see himself have a redshirt season as the Jackets possess a deep secondary in terms of quality talent as well as experience. A redshirt year could do Smith well allowing him to focus on getting more physically ready for the college game while developing his game as well. That being said, he does have the potential to become a consistent contributor for the Yellow Jackets at some point in his career. Smith and the Yellow Jackets will look to start their 2019 season off with a bang on August 29th when they travel to Clemson, South Carolina to take on the defending national champions, the Clemson Tigers.
