The countdown to kickoff is just over three weeks away as today marks 22 days till kickoff. Today’s play spotlight is on another true freshman for the Jackets, running back Jamious Griffin.

Running back Jamious Griffin is one of the biggest recruiting wins for Geoff Collins’ era so far. A late steal during last year’s cycle. The Rome, Georgia native was a force in high school, the workhorse of Rome High School’s offense in what has been a dominant program the last few seasons.

Griffin was originally committed to NC State before flipping his commitment to the Yellow Jackets just days beforehand the early signing period. Griffin is a hard runner averaged 9.1 yard per carry In his senior season for Rome and has demonstrated ability to break tackles and pick up extra yardage with his physicality. The best comparison I can think of to describe his running ability is Jonathan Dwyer and his ability to bounce off of tackles.

In terms of his potential Griffin is joining an already crowded running back battle in his first season. While it seems like a possibility that he will redshirt in his true freshman season, it is also entirely possible he earns a spot in fall camp as part of the regular rotation. He has the ability to catch passes out of the backfield which is going to be an essential skill for all of the running backs this season that could give him an advantage over the other backs.

No matter how much playing time he sees this season, it is a guarantee that Jamious Griffin is going to be a major impact player for the Yellow Jackets in the coming seasons.

Additionally, Ken Sugiura wrote an excellent piece on Jamious, his work ethic and family training for the AJC, a piece that you can read here.

The Yellow Jackets will take on the Clemson Tigers in Death Valley on August 29th, in Death Valley on the brand-new ACC Network.
