Today’s Georgia Tech Countdown to kickoff looks at true freshman quarterback Demetrius Knight who could become a big time weapon for the Yellow Jackets in the future.

In the 2019 recruiting class, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets took two quarterbacks. One of those quarterbacks, Jordan Yates was a late riser and became the darling of the recruiting class, however, the first of the two was Demetrius Knight out of Locust Grove (GA). He was the less heralded of the two prospects but he may be just as exciting.

Knight is a high ceiling prospect but is still a rather raw quarterback. At 6-foot-2 and 230-pounds, he has great size for a quarterback and mix that with his athleticism and you have a player who could be a highly versatile weapon at some point in his career.

His athleticism is best captured in the fact that he didn’t earn just letters in football during his prep career but also in baseball and basketball. Knight also appears to have some pretty underrated strength as according to his Georgia Tech profile, he once broke a rim during a high school basketball game on a dunk.

In 2019, Knight is a prime candidate for a redshirt season which should make this seasons a huge developmental season both on the field and in the weight room.

A tremendous athletes, Knight certainly had a chance to be a high impact player for the Jackets in the future. The ultimate question is, will he stay at quarterback or will the coaching staff move him around to use his elite athleticism to their advantage. There’s won’t be an answer to that question this season but will be answered within the next year or two. No matter where he ends up, Knight is an intriguing prospect to watch for the next few seasons.

The Yellow Jackets will kickoff their 2019 season against the Clemson Tigers on August 29th. The game will also be featured on a special Thursday edition of College Gameday.
