The two weeks left mark is closing in and today’s player spotlight with 16 days remaining is one of the highest regarded transfers that Geoff Collins has brought in so far this past offseason, No.16 safety Myles Sims.

Former Michigan Wolverine, Myles Sims has returned to the 404 this past offseason and this time to stay. The Atlanta native and former Westlake High School standout transferred into the Georgia Tech football program this past offseason, becoming one of head coach Geoff Collins’s biggest recruiting wins at the time.

Coming out of high school, the Yellow Jackets never played a huge factor in Sims recruitment as he would commit to the Wolverines over other programs such as Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson. At the end of his recruitment, he was considered a top-200 player nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings as well as a top-20 cornerback and top-25 player in the state of Georgia.

For 2019, SIms eligibility is still up in the air. As far as the public knows, the Yellow Jackets have yet to receive word on the eligibility of Sims as well as the eligibility of defensive end Antonneous Clayton and wide receiver Marquez Ezzard. If Sims does end up being eligible for the Jacket this season, it would be a huge boost to a Jackets defense that could already be flying under the radar in terms of potential this upcoming season.

Sims has game-changing ability as safety and could step in right away and be another huge piece of a Jackets secondary that has the potential to be a shutdown type secondary in 2019 and beyond. If he is deemed eligible, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sims become a starter for the Jackets in 2019 and if not, he could still see a sizeable role in a backup role.

The Yellow Jackets and hopefully Sims will kickoff their 2019 season on August 29th when they take on the defending national champions, the  Clemson Tigers.
