With 15 days remaining until toe meets leather, we put sophomore wide receiver Malachi Carter in the spotlight.

This offseason has been a busy one around The Flats for obvious reasons but there may not be a player in the Georgia Tech locker room, making as many waves as sophomore wide receiver Malachi Carter.

As a true freshman, Carter was a regular for the Yellow Jackets in 2018 but by playing in the triple-option, he had limited opportunities to make big plays. He would end up with just three receptions for 56-yards. That being said, in 2019, a new offense has come to The Flats and with that, the wide receivers will have the potential to be the center of the offense.

At 6-foot-3, and 195-pounds, Carter has excellent size to be an outside receiver for the Yellow Jackets but also has the speed and agility to be an inside option if needed. Most importantly, Carter has a set of hands that makes any ball that comes his way catchable and will allow him to be a consistent receiving threat.

While the entire wide receiver group has been applauded by Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins, Carter has been a receiver that Collins and the rest of the coaching staff has singled out consistently as a player who continues to impress. Offensive coordinator Dave Patenuade went as far as to say the following about Carter.

"“Malachi Carter is playing at an unbelievable level. I’m not trading that dude for anybody.”"

( Thank you to Stan Awtry at the Gwinett Daily Post for that quote, you can find his full article on Georgia Tech’s wide receivers stepping up in fall camp, here. )

The sentiment around Carter including Patenaude’s comments goes along with the hype that we here at Yellow Jacked Up have been providing to Carter this offseason. The hype around Carter will only continue to build as the season draws closer and Carter this season will be without a doubt, a player that is sure to break out in 2019.

Carter will get his first opportunity to breakout on August 29th when the Yellow Jackets travel to Clemson to take on the defending national champions.
