We are officially under a week to go until Georgia Tech’s 2019 season and with that, we highlight redshirt junior linebacker David Curry.
Buford, Georgia native David Curry is looking to become a force to be reckoned with in Georgia Tech’s newest defense in 2019. Curry, a redshirt junior who recently was awarded a sixth-year due to medical hardships and will now have two years to learn and play under Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker.
Last season, Curry played in 13 games for the Yellow Jackets, starting in 12 of those 13 games at inside linebacker. He ended up recording 47 tackles on the season including a half a tackle for a loss and one interception. Curry also ended up playing in 13 games during the 2016-17 season, starting in just one game. In 2019, Curry is slated to most likely start at middle linebacker for the Yellow Jackets. He’ll be looked upon to be the leader of the Jackets defense and it wouldn’t be shocking if he’s voted on as a team captain for this upcoming season.
Overall, Curry has a great chance to be a big-time player in the Jackets defense and a game-changer. If Curry can stay healthy, something that has been relatively difficult for him so far in his career, he could be an All-ACC caliber defender in the Jackets front seven. The Jackets will rotate their front seven and entire defense quite a bit throughout a game, so the normal wear and tear should be lowered a bit. That being said, it could also limit his production from a stat sheet perspective but if it means keeping him healthy throughout the season, it will be well worth it for Curry.
The Yellow Jackets will kick off their 2019 season against the Clemson Tigers on August 29th. The game will kickoff at 8:00 pm on the brand new ACC Network that launched on Thursday night.
