Georgia Tech Football Countdown to Kickoff: No. 5 RB Jerry Howard Jr.
In Today’s countdown we’ll cover RB Jerry Howard Jr. He looks to make his impact early as one of the prominent running backs in the new offensive scheme for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this fall.
We’re only 5 days from kickoff, and the atmosphere is really starting to build up. RS Junior Jerry Howard Jr. is one of the likely starters for the running back position this year. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets staff are particularly excited with the depth at running back and plan to throw in multiple looks in the offensive scheme to be able to use all their talents on the field.
Howard was named preseason Doak-Walker Award Watch List this year along with fellow teammate RB Jordan Mason. Howard comes into this season 2019 season as one of the most experienced running backs. Clocking in at 6 foot and 217 pounds, Howard has a nice size and showed his strength multiple times as a downhill rusher in Paul Johnson’s triple-option attack. Last season was Howard’s most productive season yet, according to ESPN stat database, as he accumulated 107 carries for 564 yards for an average of 5.3 yards/carry. He added 5 touchdowns scores as well. He can be a threat in the passing game too, even being in the triple-option offense, he snagged 4 receptions for 50 yards.
The duo of Mason and Howard could be very deadly and should be a highlight of this year’s offense. Look for both to have big seasons and be interchanged according to how the offense is producing. Howard has every possibility to become an 800+ yard rusher this season so there’s no surprise why he is on the Doak-Walker Award Watch List. Tech fans should get excited about this combination of talented runningbacks.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets travel to Death Valley on Aug. 29th to face the #1 ranked Clemson Tigers for the season opener. It will be hosted as a special College Gameday Thursday for the launch of Week 1 of College Football. That is not to be confused on today’s games, which are being considered as “Week 0” games.
