Georgia Tech Football: Jahmyr Gibbs, Bryce Gowdy lead commits in action

Full Report:

Here are all the players we were able to find stats for from their performances this past weekend.

WR Ryan King – Grayson (Loganville, GA): The Grayson Rams took down James Clemens out of Alabama on Friday night and Ryan King was a big reason why. The future Yellow Jacket had 5 catches for 109-yards and two touchdowns. The Rams walked away with a 23-13 victory in their season opener.

OT Michael Rankins – Lennard (Ruskin, FL): The Lennard Longhorns won their season opener 14-0 in a strong defensive effort. The Longhorns totaled just 250-yards for the game including 121 rushing yards.

LB Tyson Meiguez – Creekside (Fairburn, GA): Creekside narrowly lost their season opener 23-22 but Tech commitment Tyson Meiguez had a big game with 10 tackles, one sack, and four tackles for a loss according to his defensive coordinator. 

DE Jaquari Wiggles – Mays (Atlanta, GA): According to Chad Simmons of Rivals, Wiggles had one sack and a tackle for a loss in Mays 17-12 loss to Kell in the Corky Kell Kickoff Classic at Mercedes Benz Stadium.

DE Kyle Kennard – Riverwood (Atlanta, GA): Riverwood dominated their season opener over Chattahoochee 46-10. We could not find any stats for Kennard, but he did post one highlight to Twitter.

DE Akelo Stone – Jenkins (Savannah, GA): Jenkins and Stone won their season opener over New Hampstead 35-12. Stone had three tackles for Jenkins including two tackles for a loss according to Maxpreps.

OG Trent Howard – Briarwood Academy (Birmingham, AL): Howard and Briarwood Academy got off to a great start this season with a 39-6 win over Central Fellowship Christian Academy. Howard help Briarwood rush for 268-yards and four touchdowns across 32 carries in the game.

DE Khaya Wright – South Miami Senior (Miami, FL): South Miami started their season off on the wrong foot with a 20-0 loss to North Miami. Wright had seven tackles in the game including three for a loss as well as one interception and one forced fumble.

Commitment of the Week:

RB Jahmyr Gibbs – Dalton (Dalton, GA): Gibbs easily had the best weekend of any Georgia Tech commitment, rushing for insane 404-yards and eight touchdowns in a 62-10 win for Dalton over Ringgold. He also did that all before the third quarter and on just 24 carries, an average of 16.8 yards per carry.

Games to watch this upcoming weekend includes Deerfield Beach vs St. John’s Cadets (Washington, D.C) as well as Trinity Christian Academy vs Godby which pits two Tech commitments against each other in Miles Brooks vs Avery Boyd.
