Georgia Tech Football vs The Citadel: Gameday Preview
Georgia Tech will look to take care of business for win No.2 on Saturday as The Citadel Bulldogs make the trip to The Flats on Saturday afternoon.
The Citadel Bulldogs (0-2) at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-1)
Bobby Dodd Stadium (Atlanta, GA) – 12:30 pm – Weather
Georgia Tech picked up win No.1 last week against USF and is looking for win No.2 on Saturday against The Citadel. The Jackets defense on Saturday will look to carry over a fine defensive effort from last week against a Citadel team looking to avoid an 0-3 start in 2019.
What they did last week:
Georgia Tech (1-1, 0-1): 14-10 win over USF
The Jackets got their first win of the season with a close victory over USF. The offense struggled again but was able to do enough to get the victory. The defense was very impressive in the victory, being stout on the ground and through the air for the most part. A timely turnover on the goal line also helped the Jackets win the game.

The Citadel (0-2): 35-28 loss to Elon
The Bulldogs lost their second straight game last week, this time to Elon. Don’t let the score fool you, The Citadel’s offense wasn’t clicking against Elon, rushing for just 169-yards and average of 3.1 yards per game. Their defense hasn’t been particularly strong either through two weeks.
Odds: Georgia Tech (-28)
The Jackets are massive favorites on Saturday and understandably so. Georgia Tech has never lost to an FCS team and on Saturday that will most likely remain. That being said, covering a four-touchdown spread may be difficult for this Tech team that has yet to find itself on offense. The defense should perform very well on Saturday and it wouldn’t be shocking if they shutout the Bulldogs on Saturday either.
Players to Watch:
Georgia Tech – WR Ahmarean Brown
We debated about putting a few players here but we went with the true freshman speedster. Brown scored his first career touchdown in the Jackets 52-14 loss to Clemson two weeks ago but was rather silent last week. We expect the Jackets to go through the air more this week and as a result, expect a big game out of the true freshman.
The Citadel – QB Brandon Rainey
Rainey is The Citadel’s leading rusher through two games and will likely be among their top rushers against the Yellow Jackets. He’s able to get it done quite well on the ground but like most triple-option quarterbacks, struggles through the air. That being said, if The Citadel has any chance at an upset victory, Rainey will need to have the game of his life.
Prediction:
The Yellow Jackets are the more talented team here and the better team. That being said, the questions that have on offense may keep this game close in the first half. The Jackets defense should keep The Citadel in check for the most part but can the offense take advantage of strong field position or turnovers? That remains to be seen. When it comes to a prediction, we think the Jackets offense will find ways to click on Saturday while the defense holds steady all game against The Citadel’s triple-option offense. Jackets win and narrowly cover the spread.
Score Prediction: Georgia Tech 34 – The Citadel 3
Player of the Game Prediction: RB Jordan Mason – 22 carries, 120-yards, 2 TD
