Georgia Tech Football: Remaining Schedule Analysis Week 5
Heading into Week 5, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 1-2 and are looking for a win on the road against the Temple Owls. At this point in the season, we have a better view of just how this season may go. The offense and special teams continue to struggle, but the defense is the still the highlight of the team, thus far.
Week 5: @ Temple Owls (2-1)
Temple just came off of a 38-22 ugly loss to the Buffalo Bulls. QB Anthony Russo threw 3 interceptions in this game which ultimately was the deciding fate of their team this past Saturday. Luckily, the Jackets have a great secondary which could potentially force Russo to turn the ball over frequently again.
Prediction: Tech 17, Temple 14
Week 6: vs UNC (2-2)
The Tar Heels started strong with wins over South Carolina and Miami (FL), but have lost two straight. The Heels are likely looking forward to their 3rd loss in a row as they face the #1 ranked Clemson Tigers Saturday. I believe the Heels get back on track against the Yellow Jackets in Week 6.
Prediction: Tech 20, UNC 28
Week 7: @ Duke (2-1)
Since only scoring three points in the opener against Alabama, the Blue Devils have got things going offensively against their last two opponents averaging 43 points in those competitions. I believe we will learn more from the Blue Devils this Friday night when they face off against Coastal foe Virginia Tech. I still think the Blue Devils will ultimately beat the Jackets.

Week 8: @ Miami (2-2)
At this point, Miami looks like a more well-rounded team in both of their debut season for their new head coaches. Miami doesn’t look stellar, but they’ll get the job done at home against the Jackets.
Prediction: Tech 13. Miami 27
Week 9: BYE
Week 10: vs Pitt (2-2)
With a win against UCF and a strong performance against Penn State, it looks like Pittsburgh is trying to repeat for a Coastal championship. If the Panthers continue playing like this, the Yellow Jackets won’t have much of a chance.
Prediction: Tech 21, Pittsburgh 35
Week 11: @ #18 Virginia (4-0)
As predicted by preseason experts, the Virginia Cavaliers are the Coastal favorites. They are currently undefeated, but their sloppy performance against Old Dominion last week has Virginia fans worried about their future opponents. Still, I do not believe Tech, as of right now, will be one of those teams to worry about.
Prediction: Tech 10, Virginia 35
Week 12: vs Virginia Tech (2-1)
With how unpredictable the Hokies still are, it’s hard to tell if they will perform better or worse in the next coming weeks. Still, at this point, I still believe the Tech in Atlanta will out perform the Tech in Blacksburg. Jackets will win by a hair at home.
Prediction: Tech 20, Hokies 17
Week 13: vs NC State (3-1)
Still, I think the wolfpack are underrated. Their sloppy loss to West Virginia makes their record look questionable right now, but I believe they’ll handle Florida State this weekend, despite the predictions. NC State is a good team and I had the Yellow Jackets upsetting them in previous weeks, but not this time. The offense will not be able to score enough.
Prediction: Tech 10, NC State 24
Week 14: vs Georgia (4-0)
The Bulldogs finally met their match in last weekends nail biter against Notre Dame. It looks like they may run into trouble later in the season when they face tougher opponents, but with this one coming to Atlanta, and if Tech is still struggling on offense, this one won’t even be close. Historically the Jackets have not been successful at Bobby Dodd against the Bulldogs.
Prediction: Tech 14, Georgia 45
Overall: Georgia Tech (3-9)
The past few analysis I’ve made, I had the Yellow Jackets squeaking into a bowl game, but with further examination of how bad the offensive struggles have been, it may a while before tech fans can hope for a winning season. The bright side? The recruiting classes and rebuild is in full swing and there will be progress towards a brighter future. I’m still personally excited to watch the Jackets every game this season and see how they develop as a program.
Georgia Tech travels to play Temple on Saturday with a 3:30PM kickoff. Geoff Collins and Co. will look for a win against his former team and get even (2-2), before heading into ACC play against UNC in the week after.
