Georgia Tech Football: Yellow Jackets add opponents to 2021 and 2022 schedules
Georgia Tech on Thursday afternoon announced that the Yellow Jackets have added opponents to the football program’s 2021 and 2022 schedules.
Georgia Tech on Thursday afternoon announced the addition of two opponents to their future schedules in Northern Illinois and Western Carolina.
Northern Illinois – 2021
The Jackets added the Northern Illinois Huskies to their 2021 schedule. The Jackets will take on the Huskies at Bobby Dodd Stadium on September 25th. In 2021, the Huskies also will play Kennesaw State, Notre Dame, and Georgia. That is their complete 2021 non-conference schedule.
Northern Illinois over the past decade has been a respectable program this decade. In all but one season since 2010, the Huskies have won eight or more games including winning 11 or more games in each season between 2010 and 2014.
They’re off to a slow start in 2019 at 1-3 under first-year head coach Thomas Hammock but the potential is always there for Huskies to be a top-notch group of five program. They should be a formidable foe for the Yellow Jackets but should be a game by 2021 that the Jackets should be able to eat. The two programs have never met in the past.
Western Carolina – 2022
Western Carolina has helped produce each of Georgia Tech’s last two head coaches in Paul Johnson and Geoff Collins. Now, the Jackets will take on the Western Carolina Catamounts for the sixth time in program history and for the first time since 2011. The two teams will meet at Bobby Dodd Stadium on September 10th, 2022. The Jackets have won all five matchups between the two programs, dating back to 1985.
In 2022, the Jackets now have a complete non-conference schedule consisting of Western Carolina, Ole Miss, UCF, and of course Georgia.
Opening Dates Left:
The Yellow Jackets have two opening dates left in both 2023, 2024, 2026, 2027, 2032, and 2036. They have one open date left in 2025 however with Colorado, Temple, and Georgia already scheduled. Among the opponents the Jackets will face over the next 10-16 years include Colorado, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Temple.
