Nov. 20 at Georgia

Head Coach: Tom Crean (2nd year, 11-21)
Last Season: 11-21 (2-16)
PPG: 71.1
PAPG: 73.9

Key Returners:

The Bulldogs return their No.2 scorer from last season in forward Rayshaun Hammonds.  Hammonds was an effective and effecient shooting 49.2% while averaging12.1 points per game. He also brought down 6.1 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs last season.

Senior guard Tyree Crump also returns and while he didn’t light up the statsheet last season, he was the only Bulldog to appear in every game last season.

Key Losses:

The biggest loss for the Bulldogs was 6-foot-11 forward Nicolas Claxton. Claxton last season averaged 13.0 points per game and 8.6 rebounds. An efficient shooter, Claxton shot 46% from the field last season. Hammonds

One additional lost for the Bulldogs was senior forward Derek Ogbeide. Ogbeide exhausted his eligibility following last season. As a senior, he averaged 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds.

Key Additions:

The two names to know here are Anthony Edwards and Christian Brown.  Edwards was the second ranked player in all of basketball last season by 247Sports and will be a game changer for the Bulldogs. He won’t put them over the top as an SEC title contender or anything like that but he’ll give the Bulldogs at least a chance at getting to the NCAA Tournament.

Brown, on the other hand, was a top-100 player nationally himself and will play a nice complimentary role on the Bulldogs roster this season and will probably be a starter for the most part.

Overall:

This team was technically worse than the Yellow Jackets last season but going 2-16 in conference play will do that. The Bulldogs should be more competitive this season and while they may be closer to getting back to the NCAA Tournament, they still may be a bit away from the tournament even with additions like Edwards and Brown. If they can get big seasons out of those two and then Hammonds as well, they’ll have a good shot to get to at least .500 this season and maybe more.
