Georgia Tech Season in Review: No.2 WR Omahri Jarrett / DB Tariq Carpenter

As we continue to recap the 2019 Georgia Tech football season, we continue our player season recaps with the No.2s on the roster, wide receiver Omahri Jarrett and defensive back Tariq Carpenter.

WR Omahri Jarrett (RS Sr)

The Douglassville Georgia native finished up his last year for the Yellow Jackets in 2019. A reserve for his entire career on The Flats. In 2019, Jarrett reprised that role but this time as a wide receiver after spending the four years as part of the Jackets running back core under head coach Paul Johnson’s triple-options system.

Jarrett in 2019 appeared in seven games for the Yellow Jackets but did not record any stats in the process. For his career, Jarrett played in 24 games for the Yellow Jackets, he recorded 47 rushing yards and 144 kick return yards in the process.

DB Tariq Carpenter (Jr)

To follow up a strong sophomore campaign in 2018, Carpenter returned in 2019 as the Yellow Jackets starter at strong safety. After recording 55 tackles in 13 games last season, Carpenter played in 10 games for the Jackets in 2019.

In those 10 games, Carpenter recorded 56 tackles, two tackles for a loss, one interception, and one forced fumble. Over the course of the season, Carpenter was highly consistent for the Yellow Jackets and recorded five or more tackles in eight of his ten games for the Yellow Jackets. Add in his forced fumble and interception from the season and Carpenter put together another quality season for the Yellow Jackets.

That included a highly productive five game stretch that saw Carpenter record 34 tackles and one interception. In that five game stretch, he put together four games in which he recorded seven tackles.

Currently, Carpenter is slated to return to The Flats in 2020 for his junior season where he should once again be a starter in the Jackets secondary.
