Top Georgia Tech football target, quarterback Jeff Sims has re-opened his recruitment just a week before the early signing period is set to begin.

Top Georgia Tech football target and four-star quarterback Jeff Sims has re-opened his recruitment with just a week left before the early signing period. Sims, a four-star dual threat quarterback out of Jacksonville, Florida.

Sims originally committed to the Seminoles back in February and appeared steady in his recruitment until former Seminole head coach Willie Taggert was fired last month. Since then, Sims has been looking around, making an official visit to Georgia Tech and Maryland while staying committed to the Seminoles. Until Wednesday morning that is, when the top-10 ranked dual-threat quarterback decommitted from the Seminoles via his Twitter account.  According to 247Sports, Sims was set to take an official visit to Tallahassee this weekend but it is unclear if that is still going to take place.

Sims didn’t rule out signing with the Seminoles next Wednesday but in a comment to Florida State insider Zach Blostein of Noles247, Sims said  “I loved Fsu, it just wasn’t it for me.” You can read the full report by Josh Newberg of  Noles247, by clicking here.  With a quote like, that it makes it seem unlikely that a reunion will occur next Wednesday.  With that it appears that the likely options for Sims will be Georgia Tech or Maryland.

Potentially picking up Jeff Sims would be a huge pickup for Geoff Collins and the Yellow Jackets who have quickly become a notable recruiting force in the southeast after a decade of being dormant. Sims would become the Jackets second highest ranked recruit in the 2020 recruiting class, only behind four-star running back Jahmyr Gibbs who has exploded in the rankings recently after a tremendous senior season.

Currently, the Yellow Jackets do have a quarterback commitment in their 2020 recruiting class from Tampa, Florida native Tucker Gleason. Gleason has been committed to the Yellow Jackets since March.

The early national signing period begins next Wednesday, December 18th and will go until December 20th. The Yellow Jackets current 2020 recruiting class features 21 commitments and is ranked 22nd in the country in 247Sports’s composite rankings.
