Georgia Tech Football: Three-star athlete Khatavian Franks chooses Jackets on Early National Signing Day
Three-star athlete and Fairburn (GA) native Khatavian Franks signed with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Wednesday morning.
The Early National Signing Period is off to a good start for the Georgia Tech football program as on Wednesday morning, three-star athlete Khatavian Franks signed with the Yellow Jackets. Franks, a top-900 player nationally according to 247Sports chose the Yellow Jackets over a few other schools including Louisville and Virginia Tech.
A former Louisville commitment, Franks decommitted from the Cardinals at the end of last month after being committed since June. In the weeks following his decommitment, Franks made two visits to The Flats including an official visit this past weekend. It appears those visits helped pay off in the end for the Yellow Jackets.
At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds Franks will most likely fill out at linebacker for the Yellow Jackets, the same position he played for Creekside High School. Franks will need to add weight but once he gets on The Flats, that should come easy with Georgia Tech’s strength and conditioning staff. Franks has great speed at linebacker and has a knack for finding his way to the ball.
Franks will join Tyson Meiquez and Khaya Wright at linebacker for the Yellow Jackets in the 2020 recruiting class and is officially the 23rd commitment or signee in the class. The trio of linebackers should add to an already strong linebacker group for the program. Overall, the Yellow Jackets recruiting class with Franks is ranked 24th in the country and fourth in the ACC.
The Jackets will hope for more good news later this morning when four-star quarterback Jeff Sims makes his college decision. Sims, a recent Florida State decommitment is set to choose between the Yellow Jackets, Florida State, and Maryland. At this time, the Yellow Jackets are the favorites to land Sims.
