After suffering a baffling loss to Ball State on Wednesday, the Georgia Tech men’s basketball team bounced back and picked up a win over the Boise State Broncos.

Georgia Tech head coach Josh Pastner made sure that the Georgia Tech men’s basketball did not suffer a similar fate to their loss to Ball State this past Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets came out on Sunday and used a big second half to propel them to a 74-60 victory over the Boise State Broncos.

The Jackets had one of their best offensive nights of the season, shooting 48.2% from the floor as a team. Led by a trio of guards that they hope they can ride heading into ACC play, Jordan Usher, Jose Alvarado, and Michael Devoe all scored double-digit points against the Broncos. Also attributing in a major way was forward Moses Wright who had 18-points in the victory. Wright was perfect in his shooting on Sunday, hitting all seven attempts from the field including one three-pointer, he was also perfect at the line, going three-for-three.

Usher played like the player the Yellow Jackets were hoping to get when he transferred to the program. The former USC Trojan shot 6-for-10 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, scoring 18-points. He also added in seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal to his statline. Not a bad game for just his second game in over a calendar year.

Alvarado had a quality second game back from injury, scoring 14-points but you would like to see the junior guard be a bit more efficient as he only shot 4-for-13 from the field in the process. He went 2-for-7 from beyond the arch and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Devoe, on the other hand, continued to struggle a bit despite putting up 13-points. The sophomore shot 6-for-14 from the field against Boise State and struggled to hit three-pointers, missing all six that he attempted for the game.

After a quality first half, posting 26-points, the Yellow Jackets found themselves trailing the Broncos 31-26 going into halftime. The Jackets, however, would start clawing back in the early stages of the second-half, outscoring the Broncos 15-10 in the first six minutes of the half. From there, it was all Georgia Tech, as the Jackets would take a 44-41 lead with 12:52 remaining.

From that point on, the Jackets outscored Boise State 30-19 in the final 10-minutes, putting together one of their best halves of basketball, especially offensively all season. The Broncos would keep within striking distance of the Jackets for the most part but to the Jackets credit, they never truly gave Boise State the opportunity as time wind down.

The 74-60 victory for the Yellow Jackets improves their regular season record to 5-5 on the season and snaps a three-game losing streak. They’ll have this upcoming week off before returning to the court on December 31st to take on the Florida State Seminoles. The Jackets enter the game 1-1 in conference play after starting the season off with a win over NC State while also losing to Syracuse earlier this month. The Seminoles are currently 10-2 on the season and ranked No. 19 nationally. They’ll have a matchup next Saturday against North Alabama before taking on the Jackets on the 31st.
