There’s something special about Georgia Tech’s Ahmarean Brown…

Not many freshman wide receivers made the impacts that true freshman Ahmarean Brown made for the Georgia Tech football program in 2019. Brown, a native of Tampa, Florida was an instant impact player on Georgia Tech’s offense. As a true freshman, Brown totaled 21 receptions for 396-yards and seven touchdowns.

Brown’s seven touchdowns tied a program record for a true freshman wide receiver, tying a record set by the legendary Calvin Johnson in 2004.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Brown’s true freshman season was his consistency. The Florida native caught at least one pass in each of the Jackets’ 12 games this season and recorded multiple receptions in five of those games. Through the Jackets first nine games, Brown also recorded double-digit yardage.

Brown’s best game of the season was arguably his performance against North Carolina State. Against the Wolfpack, Brown had two receptions for 28-yards but both receptions went for Georgia Tech touchdowns. He also had one kick return in the game for 33-yards. Other notable performances for Brown came against Temple (three receptions for 64-yards), Pittsburgh (four receptions for 61-yards) and Miami (three receptions for 41-yards and one touchdown).

Overall, Brown’s true freshman season was electric and he single-handedly ignited a Tech offense that at times struggled to move the ball. He was without a doubt one of the best true freshman wide receivers in the country in 2019.

Also wearing No.10 for the Yellow Jackets in 2019 was junoir defensive back Josh Carlson. The development team member did not see any action on the field during the season.

2020 Outlook:

Brown will return for his true sophomore season in 2020 and without a doubt will be the Jackets biggest weapon in the passing attack with his ability to take the top of any opposing defense. With elevated quarterback play next season, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Brown to put up numbers similar to Calvin Johnson’s freshman and sophomore seasons on The Flats. Part of that will come with Brown improving his route running.
