Georgia Tech Football 2020 Signee Profile: LB Tyson Meiquez
Creekside High School and Fairburn (GA) native Tyson Meiquez may end up being one of the biggest steals in the 2020 recruiting class.
Outside linebacker Tyson Meiquez will enter The Flats after putting together an extremely productive high school career at Creekside High School. During his career at Creekside, Meiquez totaled 377 total tackles including 10 sacks and four interceptions. As a senior, Meiquez put together a fantastic season, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound outside linebacker totaled 196 tackles including 82 solo tackles. He also had four sacks, three interceptions, and three caused fumbles.
Meiquez was an early commitment in the Jackets 2020 class, committing to the program back in late April. Michigan State would look to make a run at the Georgia linebacker and Meiquez did make an official visit to East Lansing in October but he ultimately stayed committed to Geoff Collins and the Yellow Jackets. Then on December 18th, he made it official and signed with the Yellow Jackets. Meiquez is one of two linebacker signees for the Jackets in the 2020 recruiting class, joining fellow three-star linebacker and Miami (FL) native Khaya Wright.
247Sports ranks Meiquez a top-600 player nationally and gave him an overall rating of .8721. He was also ranked as a top-40 outside linebacker and a top-60 player in the state of Georgia. He received a total of 25 reported scholarship offers throughout his recruitment with a mixture of Power 5 and Group of 5 programs.
Overall, Meiquez presents a highly athletic linebacker for the Jackets. He doesn’t possess elite speed but he has the ability to be explosive and agile, allowing him to get into opposing backfields. The jackets are pretty strong at the linebacker position so it won’t necessarily be needed for Meiquez to make an instant impact. While he probably is probably in a spot that he could play right away for the Jackets, a redshirt year would be beneficial as well.
