After a wonderful performance in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Georgia Tech basketball forward, Moses Wright, has been named ACC Player of the Week.

Starting competition last Sunday, December 22nd, against tournament foe Boise State, Moses Wright started a sequence of 3 great game performances. Wright would complete a perfect game against the Broncos going 7-7 from the field with 1 attempt and make from down town at the very beginning of the game. Also performing 3 for 3 on free throws enhanced Wright’s box score to 18 points, 9 rebounds, on a perfect night of shooting. Wright would ultimately foul out with five personal fouls in the game, but not after playing perfectly for 32 minutes.

Wright continued his high-scoring affairs against Houston in the very next game, on Monday December 23rd. Wright ended the game going 7 for 15 on shooting with 19 total points. He also recorded 10 rebounds to accumulate a double-double for the first time in the tournament for the Yellow Jackets. Although the Jackets fell short to the Cougars 70-59, Wright was arguably the only Yellow Jacket to have a good game offensively.

In the 3rd game of the week against Hawaii, Georgia Tech would battle for 3rd place in the tournament. Wright, once again, would shine and help the Jackets to their 2nd victory in the tournament. Wright scored 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field with 3 rebounds. He may have not quite had the most exciting performance in this game as compared to the last two, but the Jackets would roll 70-53 against the Rainbow Warriors.

In all, Wright would record a great stat line on the week averaging 17.6 points per game on 63.6% shooting from the field, 7.3 rebounds per game, 1.3 steals per game, 1.3 blocks per game, and would go 10 for 12 from the free throw line. This wonderful stat line would not go unnoticed and the ACC would officially name Wright the ACC Player of the Week.

In an earlier post this year, we had predicted that Moses Wright would need more touches and be effective inside for the Yellow Jackets to perform well offensively. This past week was no exception to that and Wright performed flawlessly. The Jackets will now begin a tough stretch of games starting against #18 ranked Florida State tomorrow, December 31st, on New Years Eve at 12PM EST. The Jackets will look to Wright to continue his last week’s success into this week’s games against Florida State and North Carolina.
