TE Billy Ward is just the second tight end to sign with Georgia Tech since 2007 and could see immediate playing time on The Flats.

Billy Ward out of Locust Grove High School in Locust Grove, Georgia, has signed his Letter of Intent to Georgia Tech where he will continue his football and academic careers. Ward was one of the first verbal commits in the 2020 class along with fellow future teammate Tucker Gleason on March 7th, 2019. They both help kickstart the 2020 class, and will likely become a passing game connection in the Yellow Jackets offensive future.

Ward is a top-1000 player, ranked 914th nationally according to 24/7 Sports recruiting database. Ward is the second recruited Tight End out of high school under the Geoff Collins era, following Dylan Deveney late out of the 2019 recruiting class.

Ward stands at 6-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs in at 245 pounds. This is an ideal size for a tight end, especially just coming out of high school. Ward also received offers from Boston College, Appalachian State, Virginia, Louisville and others.

Ward will more than likely see immediate playing time come the 2020 football season as he and Deveney are the only true tight ends on Georgia Tech’s roster. Deveney saw immediate playing time as well playing behind TE transfer Tyler Davis in the 2019 season, I would expect Ward to play right behind Deveney and see the field often during the 2020 season. Not only does ward bring his size to the roster, but Ward also has shown reliable blocking and catching skills at the tight end position in his high school film.

Ward is a great addition to the roster and will help the team immediately, especially at the depth department. Because Johnson ran the triple-option, there were no needs for a tight end in his offense, so the position is currently depleted and lacks depth. With Tyler Davis’ departure, Ward will step in to fill that spot.
