The Georgia Tech football program will be receiving a visit this weekend from one of the country’s elite linebackers in Barrett Carter.
Georgia Tech fans have a reason to be excited with the Georgia Tech football staff’s recruiting success over the 13 months of the Geoff Collins era. The Yellow Jackets under Collins have been in the recruitment and have received visits from recruits that over the decade before Collins taking over the reigns, they simply wouldn’t have received.
They’ll receive on those visits again on Saturday when four-star linebacker Barrett Carter visits The Flats. The Suwanee, Georgia native announced his plans on Twitter on Friday morning.

Carter, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound inside linebacker from North Gwinnett High School is considered a consensus top-250 prospect in the country by the three major recruiting services (247, ESPN, and Rivals). That being said, the rankings and ratings on Carter are quite drastic in difference. Rivals has Carter ranked the highest, ranking him as the No.31 player in the country overall but also the top inside linebacker in the country and the third best player in Georgia. 247Sports’s composite rankings have Carter as the No.100 prospect in the country while also being a top-10 inside linebacker and player in Georgia. 247Sports’s own rankings, however, have Carter as the nation’s No.220 player while being the No.16 outside linebacker. Additionally, ESPN has Carter slotted at No.96 in the country.
Either way, Carter has pretty much earned offers from every notable school in the country with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Penn State. Overall, he’s received 52 scholarship offers according to 247Sports.
While it remains to be seen if Georgia Tech is a real player in Carter’s recruitment, getting Carter on campus again is huge for the Yellow Jackets. With Carter right up the road in Suwanee, the Jackets will have more opportunities going forward to get him back on The Flats if his visit on Saturday goes well. Seeing that he’s already made plenty of trips to The Flats, it’s safe to say this probably won’t be the last for the elite in-state linebacker.
