Georgia Tech earned a regular season sweep of NC State on Saturday afternoon with a 64-58 win at McCamish Pavilion.

Georgia Tech men’s basketball entered Saturday in a must win situation and Josh Pastner’s group got the job done. The Yellow Jackets took on the 14-4 North Carolina State Wolfpack and earned their second win over the ACC foe of the season.

The first half of Saturday’s game between Georgia Tech and NC State was a strong back and forth affair. The Yellow Jackets for most of the first half would have the lead on the Wolfpack, at one point having a nine-point lead. The Wolfpack, however, would climb back into the game and would go on a 16-6 run that gave them a 32-31 lead at halftime.

The Jackets didn’t play bad in the first half at all with all things considered. The Jackets were the better shooting team in the half, did a good job at preventing turnovers. In the end, missed free throws were the ultimate decider in the first half. The Jackets shot 46.2% overall in the first half including 33.3% from beyond the arch.

In the second half, the two teams would go head-to-head once again for most of the half, exchanging leads. Until the final minute, the biggest lead in the half was just a mere three-points. The Jackets shooting in the half did trail off a bit compared to their first half stats but overall, they did enough to get the job done.

Jose Alvarado and Evan Cole by far were the stars on Saturday afternoon for the Yellow Jackets. Alvarado put in another terrific effort, shooting 7-for-18 from the field collecting 26 points but also collecting eight rebounds.  He also had the game clinching steal as time was winding down in the second half. Cole, on the other hand gave the Jackets a great effort off the bench, collecting 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting. He also collected four rebounds and three blocks in the game.

Saturday night’s win for the Yellow Jackets by far is a huge one and gives them another quality victory on the season. With an easier opponent is Morehouse scheduled on Tuesday, the Yellow Jackets can use this victory to string together some momentum here in the latter half of the season.

The Yellow Jackets and Morehouse will tip off at 7:30 pm on Tuesday evening.
