Georgia Tech Football 2019 Season in Review: DB Zamari Walton
As a redshirt freshman, Zamari Walton put together a quality first full season on The Flats.
After playing four games as a true freshman in 2018, Georgia Tech rising redshirt sophomore Zamari Walton played his first full season on The Flats. Walton in 2019, played in all 12 games for the Yellow Jackets.
Walton, a member of Georgia Tech’s 2018 recruiting class was a there-star recruit out of Melbourne Central Catholic High School in Melbourne, Florida. Walton isn’t your traditional cornerback, at 6-foot-3 but he is an athletic corrner at that, fitting the build that head coach Geoff Collins likes in his corners.
In those 12 games, Walton recorded 29 tackles, 23 of them being solo tackles. He also recorded three pass deflections on the season. Walton’s best game of the season came against the NC State Wolfpack. In that game, Walton recorded a season-high six tackles including five solo tackles. Walton also had a strong effort against the Virginia Cavaliers, where he recorded five tackles, all solo. He also recorded two of his three pass deflections against Temple, with the only other pass deflection coming against Miami.
2020 Outlook:
In 2020, Walton will likely be one of the Jackets main defensive backs. While it remains to be seen if he will be a starter in 2020, at the very least, he should be a rotational player that sees the field quiet a bit. Walton has potential be a quality defensive back who can be reliable when called upon. Overall, we expect to see some growth out of Walton heading into 2020 and wouldn’t be shocked if 2020 is a big year for the Florida native.
