Three Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been named to the ACC’s All-ACC Academic Team.

On Thursday, the ACC announced their All-ACC Academic Team for the 2019 season. Overall, the team consisted of 73 ACC players from all 14 of the conferences member institutions. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets contributed three players to the All-Academic Team.

LB David Curry:

Being selected All-ACC Academic is Curry’s second honor for the 2019 season after earning All-ACC Honorable Mentions for his on the field effort this past season. Curry had a great season for the Yellow Jackets, leading the team in tackles with 97. Those 97 tackles included six tackles for a loss and two sacks. He also contributed one interception, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery on the season. Curry earned the selection while striving towards a degree in Business Administration.

OL Jared Southers:

The graduate transfer from Vanderbilt earned All-ACC Academic honors while working his way towards a masters in Economics. Southers played in 12 games for the Yellow Jackets this past season, missing games against NC State and Georgia. Southers was an important part of the success the Jackets did have in 2019 at the line of scrimmage and helped running back Jordan Mason have such a productive season with 899 rushing yards and 5.2 yards per carry.

DB Tre Swilling:

Another ACC Honorable Mention on the field, Swilling like Curry earned All-ACC Academic honors for his efforts in the classroom. Swilling did so while working towards his degree in Literature, Media & Communication. On the field, Swilling contributed 23 tackles including two tackles for a loss while being a force in the passing game. Through the air, Swilling came down with one interception while also deflecting 10 passes over the course of the season. He also had one fumble recovery on the season.

Georgia Tech’s football program is currently finishing up their 2020 recruiting class before turning their attention back to the field as spring practices will be starting in the near future in lead up to the Jackets spring game on April 10.
