Georgia Tech didn’t pick up the win on Saturday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Panthers but saw one of their star players have a quality game in the process.

The Georgia Tech men’s basketball team on Saturday fell on the road to the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Jackets as a team shot well against the Panthers but fell into old bad habits of turnovers and fouls that eventually led them to a 73-64 loss.

It wasn’t all bad on Saturday for the Yellow Jackets as they were able to get quality efforts out of a pair of key players. That being said, the Jackets didn’t have their usual strong effort from junior guard Jose Alvarado who had just nine points in the contest. Alvarado prior to Saturday was averaging nearly 20-points per game over his last five.

With Alvarado having a down game against the Panthers, the Jackets saw sophomore guard Michael Devoe step up and he had another impressive game in the process. Devoe put in a great effort and was efficient while doing so.

For the game, Devoe totaled 22-points and was successful from all parts of the court. For the game, he was 7-for-10 while also shooting a strong 3-for-5 from beyond the arch, and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. He also was able to gather two rebounds and four assists on the afternoon.

It wasn’t a perfect effort from Devoe, the sophomore from Florida also had eight turnovers in the game, by far the team lead in that category. That being said, without Devoe’s offensive performance, the Yellow Jackets would not have been as close as they were in the game. With that, he’s earned our MVP honors for Saturday afternoon’s game against Pittsburgh.

Other notable performances came from Moses Wright who scored 12 points while bringing down seven rebounds while James Banks III had seven points to go along with 11 rebounds in the game.

Devoe and the Yellow Jackets will look to get back into the win column next Wednesday but will have to do against one of the country’s bets in the Lousiville Cardinals. The two teams last met on January 22nd in Louisville when the Yellow Jackets gave the Cardinals everything but came up short in a 68-64 loss.
