The Georgia Tech Softball team began their 2020 season this past weekend but it did not go all to plan.

On Saturday, we talked about how the Georgia Tech softball team didn’t get their season off on the right foot this past Friday, being swept in a doubleheader by UAB and No.1 Washington.

The Jackets didn’t have much better luck on Saturday either. After their game against Furman was postponed due to inclement weather, the Yellow Jackets would once again take on the top ranked Washington Huskies on Saturday night. The Jackets fared better against the Huskies in their second go-around with the Pac-12 power but still were unable to find a victory. Bats on both sides were kept silent for the most part. Washington, however, would hold on for the win despite the Jackets attempting a late comeback in the seventh inning.

The Jackets did not end the opening weekend winless, however, as they were able to pick up win No.1 of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Jackets were able to grab that win over the MAC’s Ohio Wildcats. The Jackets were sparked by a big third inning that saw them manage three runs. They added an insurance run in the fourth inning that was enough for them to survive an Ohio rally in the fifth inning and eventually take a 5-3 victory over the Bobcats. Morgan Bruce was able to pick up her first victory of the season in the process.

It was certainly not the opening weekend that the Jackets were looking for to start the season but they’ll have plenty of time to bounce back from the tough opening weekend performance. They’ll first opportunity will come next weekend.

The Yellow Jackets will take the diamond again this upcoming Friday when Big Ten opponent Nebraska comes to Atlanta. It will begin an ACC/Big Ten Challenge weekend for the Jackets with two games against the Cornhuskers scheduled and two-games against the Iowa Hawkeyes also scheduled.
