The Georgia Tech basketball team will begin their final homestand of the 2019-20 season on Tuesday night against the Clemson Tigers.

Georgia Tech’s final three games of the 2019-20 season are upon us as the Yellow Jackets will begin their final homestand on Tuesday night against Clemson.

The Yellow Jackets (13-14, 7-9) are coming off a disappointing loss on Saturday evening to the Syracuse Orange 79-72 in a game where Moses Wright posted his seventh double-double with 33 points and 11 rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets with the home stand also have potential history on the line as a sweep of the homestand would allow the Yellow Jackets to win 10-games in conference play for the first time since the 1995-96 season. With four games remaining in the season, the Jackets opportunity to make history is quickly running out.

Good news for Tech fans hoping the Jackets can reach the 10-win mark in conference play is that of ESPN’s RPI and Warren Nolan’s predicted results based off RPI have the Jackets winning sweeping the homestand to get to that 10-win mark. According to ESPN’s RPI, the Yellow Jackets currently have a 54.6% chance of victory over the Tigers and have 70% chances of victory against Miami and Pittsburgh respectively.

Additionally, each of the three teams the Jackets are set to face have had plenty of struggles on the road this season.

Clemson enters this week, posting a 3-6 record away from home. Following their game against Clemson, the Jackets will take on the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday night. The Hurricanes enter this week with a 14-13 record overall but just a 6-10 record in conference play. Like Clemson, they’ve had a hard time winning on the road, winning just four of their 11 road games this season.

Finally, the Jackets will wrap up their homestand against the Pittsburgh Panthers next Wednesday. Pittsburgh, like both Clemson and Miami have struggled on the road, but more so, going just 2-7 away from the friendly confines of The Petersen Events Center.

That all being said, no matter the struggles the Jackets upcoming opponents have had on the road. Wins at home have not been a sure thing for the Yellow Jackets. Entering Tuesday night, the Jackets are just 6-6 at McCamish Pavillion this season.

The good news, however, the Jackets are playing well at home over the last month or so. The Jackets have won each of their last four games at McCamish including upsets over North Carolina State and of course the Louisville Cardinals.

Of course, none of that matters as only what happens on the court matters. The Jackets dreams of making the NCAA Tournament are certainly slim but they’re not completely dead yet. Keeping those dreams alive begins on Tuesday night against Clemson.

The Yellow Jackets and Clemson will tip-off on Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.. Tech fans can watch the game on Tuesday night via ACC Network Extra.
