The Georgia Tech men’s basketball team moved a bit closer to history on Tuesday night with a 68-59 win over the Clemson Tigers.

The Georgia Tech men’s basketball team on Tuesday night began their final homestead of the 2019-20 season as they hosted the Clemson Tigers at McCamish Pavilion.

The Jackets entered the game with a 13-14 record overall and a 7-9 record in conference play. With slim hopes of making the NCAA Tournament, the Jackets could not afford any sort of loss in the remaining four games.

Three Tech starters finished the game with double-digit performances led by the junior guard Jose Alvarado who had 19-points on 8-of-14 shooting and 3-of-5 from beyond the arch. Sophomore Michael Devoe wasn’t too far behind Alvarado with 14-points. He also had six rebounds and eight assists in the winning effort.

The third and final Yellow Jacket with double-digit points was forward Moses Wright who had 10-points following a 33-point performance against Syracuse on Sunday afternoon. Off the bench Khalid Moore and Bubba Parham gave six and eight points respectively.

Overall, it was a quality game offensively for the Yellow Jackets as they shot 47.3% as a team including 43.6% from beyond the arch. The Jackets success from long range was pivotal and ultimately one of the biggest reasons for their victory as Clemson shot just 2-for-20.

For the Yellow Jackets, the victory over Clemson is big. The Jackets move back into .500 on the season with the victory at 14-14. Additionally, it moves them up to eight wins in conference play, needing two wins in their last three games to get to 10 wins. If the Jackets can do so, it will be the first time since the 1995-96 season.

The Yellow Jackets will be back at it on Saturday when they take on the Miami (FL) Hurricanes at McCamish Pavillion. Tech fans can watch the game via ACC Network Extra or listen to it via WRECK 91.1 FM.
