ACC Suspends All Athletics Due to Coronavirus

On Thursday afternoon, the ACC  announced that all sports activities including games, practices, recruiting and more have been suspended for the foreseeable future in order to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The decision comes hours after the ACC among other power five conference is made a decision to cancel the remainder of their respective postseason tournaments.

As of Thursday, Georgia Tech had not made any decision regarding classes or athletic activities.  In terms of athletic activities that decision is now of course out of their hands as the ACC made a decision for them.

The decision will affect many Georgia Tech athletic programs including the women’s basketball team, baseball team, softball team among other spring athletics.

While it remains to be seen the Georgia Tech football spring game scheduled for April 10 surely is now up in the air.  In any circumstances it’s hard to see the game being played on April 10 and postponed if not outright canceled.

The NCAA has yet to make a decision regarding the NCAA men’s and women’s tournaments that were scheduled to begin next week.  Once again a postponement there seems at least likely and cancellation is not totally out of the question either.

Either way it’s promising to see many professional and amateur leagues and comforters taking a serious Step forward and helping prevent the spread of the day th step forward and helping prevent the spread of the novel COVID-19 virus.

The NBA and NHL have both suspended their regular season play for now while the MLB has also announce the cancellation of spring training for opening day well as we pushed back at least two weeks from the original start date of March 26.
