Georgia Tech has landed in the top-16 for one of the country’s most sought out recruits.

Alpharetta, Georgia native and Pace Academy star Matthew Cleveland is one of the highest recruited prospects in the nation and rightfully so. Cleveland is viewed as an immediate game changer and is one of the nation’s premier shooting guards.

247Sports’s composite rankings have Cleveland as the No. 29 player in the country, No. 5 shooting guard, and No. 2 player in the state of Georgia. 247Sports is a bit higher on him than the rest of the industry, ranking him as the No. 14 overall propsect and no.2 shooting guard.

On Wednesday night, Cleveland released his top-16 schools, narrowing his list down form 29. The Yellow Jackets were one of the lucky 16 programs but as you can probably tell, they’ll have plenty of competition.

Above, you can see Cleveland’s top-16 announcement that besides Georgia Tech includes top programs like Louisville, Kansas, and Michigan.

In their 2021 recruiting class, the Jackets currently do not hold any commitments after signing three players in the 2020 recruiting class and bringing in two transfers in Kyle Sturdivant and Rodney Howard.

Cleveland has not set a commitment date yet but based off him just limiting it to 16-programs, it seems like it will be a while before he makes any sort of commitment. That being said, while one should feel good about the Jackets considering their proximity to Cleveland, they’ll have plenty of work to do going forward.

The Jackets have been in the situation in the past with top recruits but have come up short, landing a player like Cleveland would not just be a game changer on the court for the Jackets but also on the recruiting trail.
