Georgia Tech received commitment No.16 on Wednesday from a top in-State safety.

Commitment No.16 is in the books for Georgia Tech’s 2021 recruiting class. On Wednesday afternoon, consensus three-star prospect Kaleb Edwards committed to the Jackets. Edwards is considered a top-600 recruit nationally in 247Sports’s composite rankings.

Edwards announced his decision to join the Jackets 2021 class on Twitter.

The Timeline:

The Yellow Jackets have been in on Edwards for a while now offering him back in April but they’re relationship certainly goes further back than that. It’s worth noting that Edwards committed to the Jackets despite not being able to visit campus since receiving his offer. That should give you a great sense of the relationship the staff has built with Edwards and the vision their share for his career going forward.

Other Suitors:

Overall, Edwards totaled 31 known scholarship offers from a combination of Power 5 and Group of 5 programs. Other notable programs to offer Edwards include Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Stanford, and West Virginia. Overall, it’s a considerably strong offer list for the Georgia native.

What They’re Getting:

We will have to take a look of Edwards film later when we get the opportunity but on paper the Jackets are getting a potential multi-year starting caliber safety. While he won’t be an immediate impact player in all likelihood, he should have the ability to develop into a reliable safety in the secondary for the Jackets after a probable redshirt season his freshman year.

At 6-foot-0, 195-pounds, Edwards already has quality size for a collegiate safety and his 4.60 forty-yard dash is nothing to scoff at either. As someone who will only get bigger and faster once he gets to The Flats, it’s easy to see why the Tech coaching staff was high on Edwards.
