Georgia Tech Football: Jordan Mason Makes Preseason Watch List
By Lee Cagle
Junior running back Jordan Mason was named to the 2020 Doak Walker Award watch list given to the nation’s top running back. The list was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
While the 2020 college football seasons fate remains in limbo, the preseason award watchlists continue to roll out over the last few weeks. On Wednesday afternoon, the Doak Walker Award watchlist was released and it featured Georgia Tech’s own Jordan Mason. The award is annually given out to the country’s top running back.
Mason receives the distinction after being named third-team all ACC in the 2019 season. He rushed for 899 yards and seven touchdowns during his sophomore season on 172 total carries. He averaged 74.9 yards per game and 5.23 yards per carry. He had three 100-yard games throughout the season which included two 140+ yard games against Miami and NC State.
Mason is the veteran of the deep running back group that returns this season and has proved his value for the offense with his explosiveness over the past few seasons. It is also worth noting that the offensive line he was running behind was not the best in the world and he still managed to put up decent numbers in 2019. With an improved offensive line Mason has a ton of potential and could be ready to explode o the field this season.
The Semi-Finalists for the Doak Walker Award will be announced during November with three finalists announced later that month. The winner will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December.
