We’re coming in a little late for today’s Georgia Tech countdown to kickoff but don’t fear because we on’y have 47 days left till college football returns (hopefully!).

In the spotlight with 47 days remaining until Georgia Tech begins their season against Clemson on September 3rd is redshirt freshman linebacker Cornelius Evans.

The Lawrenceville, Georgia native was a three-star recruit in the Yellow Jackets 2019 recruiting class and chose the Yellow Jackets over other programs such as Baylor, Colorado State, and Rutgers. He was considered a top-1500 prospect nationally per 247Sports and a a top-150 player in the state of Georgia.

As a true freshman, Evans did not appear in any games for the Yellow Jackets but should have the opportunity to break into the Jackets rotation at linebacker in 2020. There’s a lot to like about Evans as he has great size at 6-foot-4 and 205-pounds but is also quite athletic which could become quite the combination for the former three-star. A highly productive high school player, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Evans eventually become a contributor for the Yellow Jackets down the road when more opportunity opens up for him.

Overall, Evans in 2020 will probably be a contributor at times but still won’t see a ton of playing time. However, come the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Evans should be a much bigger contributor for the Jackets and push for considerable playing time.

Also wearing the No.47 for the Yellow Jackets is redshirt sophomore kicker Cliff Glandis and redshirt freshman tight end Nathan Tyler.  Only 47 more days until toe meets leather!
