With 45 days remaining till Georgia Tech is scheduled to kickoff their 2020 season against Clemson at Bobby Dodd Stadium we highlight Georgia Tech running back Tony Amerson.

Our countdown to Georgia Tech’s 2020 season beginning continues on this Monday as there is only 45 days remaining until the Yellow Jackets begin their 2020 season. With it being 45 days remaining, we had two potential players to spotlight in today’s countdown.

The first of those two could be redshirt freshman running back Tony Amerson and the second being redshirt freshman walk-on Taylor McCawley. We ultimately decided to go with the former three-star running back in Amerson.

Amerson, a native of Montgomery, Alabama was a member of the Yellow Jackets 2019 recruiting class, one of three running backs in the class. Also joining Amerson in that recruiting class was four-star Jamious Griffin and three-star Devin Ellison.

Amerson nationally was considered just outside a top-1000 prospect nationally and was a top-75 running back prospect per 247Sports. Amerson ended up committing to the Jackets over 12 other programs including Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Mississippi State, Purdue, and Vanderbilt.

Last season, Amerson did not appear in any games for the Yellow Jackets as they had a pretty strong running back room. Entering 2020, Amerson will still have plenty of competition in front of him to try to see playing time but could very well pick up a few carries every now and then. With running backs such as Jordan Mason, Jamious Griffin, and Jahmyr Gibbs as the top three running backs, not to mention the wildcard addition of Bruce Jordan-Swilling, it could be difficult for any running back outside the top-three to see any considerable playing time.

Either way, with patience Amerson should eventually see his fair share of playing time for the Jackets down the road as he continues to develop his game. Only 45 days remaining until toe meets leather!
