As we look to ensure that Georgia Tech fans know all the latest news regarding the 2020 college football season, after a report last night that Power Five conferences were looking to cancel the 2020 season, it looks like we have some good news.

On Monday, the ACC athletic directors held a meeting to discuss the latest plans regarding the upcoming 2020 season. According to a report from CBS Sports, it appears that as of now, the ACC will look to play this upcoming season despite concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the report to CBS Sports, an ACC official told CBS’s Dennis Dodd that the conference “We are trying to move forward, absolutely”. While it’s not a statement of certainty regarding the season, it is good news as we move closer to what would be the beginning of the 2020 season.

This comes on the tails of the Mid-American Conference and Mountain West Conference both postponing their 2020 fall seasons while the Big Ten is reportedly considering doing the same. Under the current schedule for the ACC this season, the Yellow Jackets are set to begin their 2020 season on September 12th against the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee.

This report from CBS Sports obviously contradicts multiple reports that came out on Sunday night regarding the 2020 season and how multiple Power Five conferences were expected to cancel or postpone the fall season. Since then, it appears that the Big Ten and the Pac-12 are the only two conferences leaning towards possibly canceling/postponing the season while the ACC, Big 12, and SEC are all hoping to play this fall.

Additionally, the possibility of teams from the Big Ten or Pac 12 (mostly the Big 10) possibly playing the season as a member of another conference this fall if their respective conferences would pull the plug on their own schedule.

Overall, the report on Monday from CBS Sports is great news for college football fans and fans of ACC institutions. While we still have plenty of ways to go until college football does begin (at least it feels like it), there is definitely still optimism around the possibility of playing this fall.
