On Monday, 247Sports released their preseason All-American team for the 2020 season, consisting of players in programs that will be playing this fall, among the players named is Georgia Tech freshman offensive lineman Jordan Williams.

With Georgia Tech’s 2020 season just 12 days until they kick off their 2020 season against the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee, one Georgia Tech freshman received quite the mention on Monday.

Offensive lineman Jordan Williams out of Gainesville, Georgia was named by 247Sports to their preseason freshman All-American team. Williams, a former three-star recruit is expected to see plenty of playing time this fall for the Jackets, if not even be a starter.

Williams is a rare freshman offensive lineman that could be a day-one starter for a Power Five program. Now, while the Yellow Jackets lack of quality depth at the position helps Williams’s case, the true freshman still has plenty of talent and has the physical size to be a day-one starter for the Yellow Jackets. At 6-foot-6 and 330-pounds, Williams is the biggest player on the team in terms of height and weight. The only player taller is offensive lineman Wing Green at 6-foot-7.

If Williams does start for the Yellow Jackets against Florida State or at any time this season, it will be at the right tackle position where Devin Cochran was expected to take over for the Jackets. Cochran, however, ultimately did not enroll at Tech. With his absence, it seems likely that Williams will get that chance to be the starter for the Jackets.

It’s far from a given that Williams will have a great amount of success as a day-one starter. The offensive line position is one of the hardest for a true freshman to step in and have success. However, it’s safe to say that Williams has the size, strength, and talent to be successful even as a freshman. He will be challenged by going up against some elite defensive lineman throughout the ACC which will create some interesting matchups as the season goes on. If one thing is for certain, if Williams does win the starting job, he’ll be thrown right into the fire.

Another Tech freshman who got a bit of a shoutout in the freshmen All-American team by 247Sports was running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs was of course the Jackets top-ranked recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. The only thing holding Gibbs back from making the team it seems is the fact the Jackets have a strong duo of running backs ahead of him in Jordan Mason and Jamious Griffin.
