We continue our Georgia Tech football opponent camp notes by taking look at Georgia Tech’s second opponent this fall, the UCF Knights.
Last week, we looked at how Florida State Seminoles are doing in fall camp so far. Today, we look at Georgia Tech’s second opponent on the season, the UCF Knights.
Knights to start the season at No.21….
The Yellow Jackets first ranked opponent of the season will most likely be UCF as the Knights were ranked in the preseason AP poll as the nation’s No.21 team. Last season, the Knights started the season at No.17 in the country before ultimately ending at No.24 in the final AP poll of the season. They’ll look for a fourth-straight winning season in 2020.
Dillon Gabriel in for a big sophomore season?
Over the last decade, UCF has had their fair share of good quarterbacks but some believe current quarterback Dillon Gabriel just may be the best of any of them. As a true freshman, he posted some scary numbers including over 3,600 passing yards to go along with 29 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. UCF head coach Josh Heupel though hasn’t shied away, however, from the fact that he expects a ton of growth out of Gabriel heading in and throughout this season. The sky may be the limit for Gabriel.
Mckenzie Milton continues on the comeback trail…
For those who follow college football heavily, you may have heard of Mackenzie Milton. Milton was the Knights star quarterback before Gabriel. Easily the top five G5 quarterback and for some a Heisman contender. Unfortunately for Milton, he tore his ACL in the Knights final regular-season game of 2018 against the USF Bulls. He’s been rehabbing ever since. Now, entering the 2020 season, Milton continues his rehab but it’s still a question of if he’ll ever see the field again.
10 players to Sit out For UCF:
On Tuesday, it was announced 10 UCF players will sit out this season. Among those players for UCF include quarterback Darriel Mack Jr and cornerback Tay Gowan. Mack was expected to be the Knights backup quarterback this season awhile Gowan showed a lot of promise while playing in 12 games including nine starts.
