Staff Predictions:

Dylan Callaghan-Croley (Expert): I think Georgia Tech is going to come out strong in this game on both sides of the ball and I expect this one to be rather close for the first half. That being said, I think Florida State’s talent probably ends up being a little bit too much for the Yellow Jackets especially FSU’s defensive line against the Yellow Jacket’s offensive line. If the Yellow Jackets can at least have some success in the trenches throughout the game, they’ll give themselves a shot at a victory. The weather may make this game interesting and it could come down to how the Yellow Jackets can hold up against the Florida State run game. Score Prediction: Florida State 27 – Georgia Tech 17

Lee Cagle (Contributor): FSU unfortunately is still a talented football team and GT is still in the rebuilding process. We don’t have a total picture of what our offense will look like but hopefully we see a positive charge from that group. Call me crazy but I’m expecting at least two INTs by the secondary as well. Score Prediction: Florida State 21 – Georgia Tech 10

Alex Farrer (Contributor): Though we thought it might never get here, we have finally made it to real live Georgia Tech football in 2020. The excitement is through the roof just to see the season start when we didn’t know what to think a few months ago. Add that to the second year of the Geoff Collins’ Era starting, and there are a bunch of amped-up Jackets’ fans. Something tells me Georgia Tech will look vastly different as a team than they looked last year, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I’m talking about almost unrecognizable to what we saw from a very limited offense in 2019. There are a lot of weapons to use, and if Georgia Tech can get average to above average QB play and expected improved offensive line play, they will be able to put up some solid point totals. Add that offensive excitement to a more experienced defense that adds a playmaker upfront in the form of transfer Antonneous Clayton and one of the most underrated secondaries in college football, and that seems like a recipe for a much-improved team. It won’t be easy with a trip to Tallahassee to open the schedule, but there seem to be a little bit of growing pains going on right now for first-year head coach Mike Norvell as some weird stuff has happened while he tries to get his new players to buy into his coaching. It might be too much optimism or a little bias, but I’m taking the Jackets to earn an eye-opening victory to open the 2020 campaign.
Score prediction: Georgia Tech 27 – Florida State 20

Austin Holtzer (Contributor):  With experience from both rosters coming back, the defense will largely play a factor in the first half. Norvell’s new implemented scheme will take time to be properly executed and with Georgia Tech’s defense and run game, Tech has a chance to play keep away with the Noles. It will be a low scoring affair in the first half but during the second half, both teams will find the urge to put some points on the board. Tech’s scheme will keep them close throughout the game but FSU will find a way to break out and score big. Score Prediction: Florida State 34 – Georgia Tech 21

Bronston Tankersly (Contributor): Georgia Tech has had a busy offseason despite the unprecedented times of a pandemic. They’re not going to be the same 3-9 Yellow Jackets from a year ago. Picked to finished last in the Preseason ACC Polls, these guys are coming to play with a chip on their shoulders. Georgia Tech 28 – Florida State 20

Shelby Williams (Contributor): All awkwardness aside, Jeff Sims will walk into Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday for at least the second time. This time, however, he’ll be on the opposing team. After Sims decommited from FSU, Tech grabbed him before anyone else could. With former Temple University head coach and former Florida Gators Defensive Coordinator Geoff Collins calling the shots now, FSU just might have their hands full. Although he ran a great defense, Coach Collins was unable to conquer the Noles during his time at Florid. He’d have to come up with something pretty clever to match their offense. As much as it pains me to say it, I’m taking the Noles on this one – most likely a close and high scoring game. Until Collins can get a better grip on his new quarterback, the Yellow Jackets have some work to do. Score Prediction: Florida State 28 – Georgia Tech 21
