Jeff Sims has earned Manning Award Quarterback of the week after the comeback victory against Florida State.

Just a few days removed from Georgia Tech’s big victory over the Seminoles, Jeff Sims has been awarded the Manning Quarterback of the Week. For Sims, this is a great honor not only for standing out on the field this past Saturday, but against the program that he was previously committed to.

Sims, just a true freshman out of Jacksonville, Fla., threw for 277 yards with one passing touchdown. He also tacked on another rushing touchdown and 64 yards on the ground. His rushing touchdown ended up giving the Yellow Jackets the lead in the fourth quarter. He was also named ACC Rookie of the Week after his performance.

The Manning Award recognizes the most valuable quarterbacks and Sims won this week’s award over Sam Ehlinger out of Texas and Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall.

Sims is set to face off against a high-octane offense led by UCF’s Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel and the UCF offense averaged 43.4 points per game (5th out of 130) in 2019. They prepare to compete for the CFP this year with the difference circumstances given. Sims and the Georgia Tech offense will need to come out strong to keep up with the Golden Knights offense.

Sims has proven that he can compete on the college football stage with just one game in, but there is plenty of room for improvement to add to his trophy case. He will need to have a clean game if the Yellow Jackets want to come out with a win. He has all the tools necessary to be one of the best quarterbacks in Georgia Tech’s recent memory and last Saturday he showed a ton of potential to Georgia Tech fans around the country.
