Georgia Tech Football: Jahmyr Gibbs Named ACC Rookie of the Week
For the second straight week to start the 2020 season, a Georgia Tech true freshman earned the ACC’s Rookie of the Week honor.
Two weeks into the 2020 season and Georgia Tech’s 2020 recruiting class is already making their mark.
A week after true freshman quarterback Jeff Sims earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for his performance against Florida State, true freshman running back Jahmyr Gibbs earned the same honor for his week two performance against Central Florida.
Gibbs against UCF had over 219 all purpose yards in his collegiate debut while also getting into the end zone twice during the game. He was a weapon in multiple facets of the game, getting it done on the ground, through the air, and even on kickoff returns.
For Gibbs, the extra week of waiting was certainly worth it as he missed the season opener against FSU. Now with a 200+ all purpose yard game under his belt, you have to wonder if he will be the Jackets starting running back going forward. Especially considering Jordan Mason was out against UCF, could we see a Wally Pipp situation?
Additionally, Gibbs was our offensive player of the game but also was named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for his efforts.
The Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back from their 49-21 loss to UCF this upcoming weekend when they travel to Syracuse to take on the Orange. The Yellow Jackets have opened in the game as 7.5 point favorites over the Orange who are 0-2 coming into this week after losing to Pittsburgh 21-10 on Saturday.
