After having the last two weeks off, the Georgia Tech football team will look to return to the field on Saturday when they take on the Miami Hurricanes.

By the time Saturday’s game against the Miami Hurricanes rolls around, it will be three weeks since the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets last played, a 31-13 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Since then, they had a built-in bye week but then had their game this past weekend against the Pittsburgh Panthers, postponed due to COVID issues within the Pittsburgh program. The game has been rescheduled for December 12th.

With that, the Jackets are entering the week with a 2-5 record including a 2-4 record in conference play. This week, they’re set to go on the road to South Florida and take on the No.12 Miami Hurricanes who are coming off a close win over Virginia Tech and own a 7-1 overall record. Their lone loss of the season coming in blowout fashion to the Clemson Tigers.

Vegas believes that the Hurricanes are the much better team here and have them as significant favorites over the Yellow Jackets with the opening lines at -17. Across Sportsbooks, that line has grown mostly with some books having the Hurricanes now as a -19 point favorite.

Saturday’s matchup between the two ACC rivals will be the 26th meeting all-time with the Yellow Jackets holding the lead all-time in the series at 13-12 including winning each of the last two games. That being said, the Hurricanes have won seven of the last 10 matchups overall.

Last season, the Yellow Jackets went into Hard Rock Stadium and upset the Hurricanes 28-21, marking Geoff Collins’s best win of his first season on The Flats. Miami entered that game as an 18.5 point favorite.

That being said, this year’s Miami team is much different from the one that went 6-7 with a 14-0 loss to Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl to end their season. The Hurricanes offense with dual-threat quarterback D’Eriq King is much improved, making Miami a tough team to beat this year after having an anemic offense the last few years.

While King has improved the offense and Miami is an improved team, they’ve still had their struggles. Since their loss to Clemson on October 10th, the Hurricanes have failed to win in impressive fashion, their biggest win since was a 31-19 win over Pittsburgh. Besides that, they have a 19-14 win over Virginia, a 44-41 win over NC State, and a 25-24 win over Virginia Tech.

Will the Yellow Jackets be the next team to play the Hurricanes tough and look to give them their second loss of the season? We’ll have to wait and find out.
