Georgia Tech senior defensive lineman Anntoneous Clayton has opted out of the remainder of the 2020 season.
Georgia Tech defensive lineman Anntoneous Clayton has opted out of the remainder of the Yellow Jackets 2020 schedule citing personal reasons per a Twitter announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
Clayton, a redshirt senior, has played in five games this season per his official Georgia Tech football profile. In those five games, he recorded nine tackles including 2.5 tackles for a loss and two sacks.

In his statement on Twitter, Clayton cited his mental health as one of the major reasons for taking a leave from the program. It also appears that Clayton will be returning to Georgia Tech for the 2021 season as this year does not count against anyone’s eligibility. Giving him a second year to play at Georgia Tech after originally transferring in from Florida and expecting only one year on The Flats.
The Vienna, Georgia native originally was a five-star prospect out of Dooly County High School, committing and signing with the Florida Gators. Clayton played in 17 games during his career with the Gators before transferring to The Flats in time for the 2019 season. After sitting out for the 2019 season due to transfer rules, Clayton was eligible to play for the Jackets this season. Unfortunately, Clayton was banged up at times throughout the season, only allowing him to play in five of seven games.
If he does in fact return for the 2021 season, Clayton will play an important role in the Yellow Jackets defensive line that should return a good deal of talent and have some quality potential next season.
