Georgia Tech punter Pressley Harvin III declared on Monday evening that he will not be returning for another year on The Flats and will be chasing his NFL dreams.

The Georgia Tech football program may have experienced their toughest loss of the offseason on Monday afternoon as first-team All-ACC punter Pressley Harvin III announced that he will not return for a fifth season with the Georgia Tech football program and will be entering the NFL Draft.

The Alcolu, South Carolina native wrapped up a fantastic career with the Yellow Jackets this season averaging a career-high and nation-leading 48 yards per punt across 45 total punt attempts.

For his career, Harvin had 210 punting attempts for the Jackets in his career with a career average of 44.7 yards per punt. After coming to The Flats as the No.1 punter in the 2017 recruiting cycle, Harvin surely lived up to the billing.

Harvin III is the third Yellow Jacket to declare for the NFL Draft since the season ended, joining wide receiver Jalen Camp and linebacker David Curry. There are arguments that Harvin is the most likely of the three to hear their name called at some point during the draft.

The loss of Harvin III will be a big one for the Yellow Jackets, a position that often undervalued by fanbases at times, the Jackets will miss the South Carolina native’s ability to flip field position from almost anywhere on the field. Harvin was terrific at pinning opposing offenses deep in their own territory.

In terms of the Jackets punting situation next season, one would have to think at least at this time, redshirt junior Austin Kent is the likely successor. Kent punted for the Jackets this year when Harvin III was unavailable. He averaged 41.3 yards per punt over three attempts. The position could be one that the Yellow Jackets also look at in the transfer portal.
